AN AWESOMELY USEFUL MODIFICATION FOR SAFETY'S SAKE: STEP 1 Remove the Flint Spring and the Felt Pad (just leave the Flint inside the Tube, but make sure it doesn't fall out and get lost). STEP 2 Separate the Screw Lid from the Flint Spring and BE CAREFUL not to stretch/damage the Spring! STEP 3 hide the Spring&Tip with the material inside the insert. STEP 4 replace the Felt (thus securing the now removed Spring) and the Screw Lid, and reassemble the lighter. Now the Flint should be inside the Tube, but lacking the Spring's force to spark with the Wheel! It's easily undone, just retrieve the Spring and reattach the Screw Lid, as I show in the vid. I started doing this after I accidentally dropped a flaming lighter between the lint-packed cushions of my parents' couch..do not underestimate the pain that this modification can save. TIP: Fuel still evaporates whenever you open your lighter, so don't think that you're saving fuel this way.
