This sort of continues the tradition I started with 2 Steps Forward. Hold: Thumb on cap above hinge. Index on cap opposite thumb. Middle folded such that the large flat side is against the nail. Ring on bottom side opposite the hinge. Pinkie on bottom side below the hinge. M’kay? Pull open the cap with your index – don’t let your fingers slip from any surface. Push the hinge up and over with your thumb. Now you’re holding the cap with your thumb and index on the flat sides, the top of your middle finger should be against the top of the chimney, your ring finger should be extended with the tip on the bottom edge, and your pinkie should be folded, with the top of it against the flint wheel. To light, extend your pinkie and middle at the same time. The pinkie will strike the flintwheel, and the middle will push on the chimney – this will cause the lighter to rotate CW (if righty) and be lit. You’ll be holding it between your index and thumb roughly around the hinge area. You can close many ways; a bottom swing, a cap swing, a push with the thumb, or my personal favorite, a push with the middle finger, which leaves it extended for communication purposes. This will tear up the top of your pinkie, so if you start to get sore, give it a rest so the callous will build up.
