Hold the lighter by the lid/cap with the hinge facing away from you. Now tilt your hand down so the lighter pops open. Swing the lighter around 180 degrees between the gap formed by your thumb and index finger. Let go of the cap with your thumb and light the lighter with it (balance it by putting your ring-finger under the hinge). Close anyway you fancy.
